Peer Support Groups for people living with type 2 diabetes
The type 2 diabetes peer support service supports people to live better with type 2 diabetes through one-to-one peer mentoring. We are now piloting a new group approach to living better with type 2 diabetes.
The support groups offer an opportunity for people living with type 2 diabetes to come together to improve their knowledge, confidence, and ability to self-manage their condition. The aim is to support people so that they can live well with type 2 diabetes and make the changes they wish to make to lead healthier lives.
The group is for everyone with type 2 diabetes – all are welcome, it is for people who are newly diagnosed as well as people who may have been living with the condition for some time, but who would appreciate support to get on track with their diabetes. The groups are led by volunteers who are also living with type 2 diabetes.
There are two courses, one online and one face-to-face. Each course will comprise six 2-hour sessions, spread over 12 weeks, with the group meeting fortnightly.
· Face to face course: Thursdays 1 – 3pm. Taking place on 10 November, 24 November, 8 December, 22 December, 5 January 2023, 19 January, at the Wellspring Healthy Living Centre, Barton Hill, Bristol.
· Online course, via Zoom: Tuesdays 6 – 8pm. Taking place on 22 November, 6 December, 20 December, 3 January 2023, 17 January, 31 January.
People wanting to join a group would be asked to choose either the online group, or the face to face group. To get the most from the group people would need to attend all six sessions.
